Truagh Sprit .IE Digital Town Awards Finalists 2024

USING TECHNOLOGY & INNOVATION TO TRANSFORM & ENHANCE OUR COMMUNITY

Fiona McCaffrey Jones, Manager of Truagh Spirit Social Enterprise explained, “building on our 2023 nomination we are thrilled to be finalists yet again in the ie. Digital Town Awards. This time we are finalists in 2 categories - DIGITAL Community and DIGITAL Rising Star. We are looking forward to representing Truagh and Co Monaghan at the national awards ceremony in Athlone later this month. The judges highlighted our work in the digital sphere with the innovative Wise & Well Social Club for older people and fingers crossed we will take home first prize second time around!

Wise & Well is a new social club tailored for the over 65s. Addressing the very real post Covid-19 issue of social isolation among older people in an innovative and empathetic way. Wise & Well is inclusive and welcoming; fostering social engagement but also prioritising digital literacy, offering training sessions to empower older people in navigating the digital landscape, making it accessible, practical and fun. Wise & Well lifts the spirits with exciting day trips and social opportunities, allowing people to bond over shared experiences.

Since the launch of Wise & Well in February 2024 over 400 people have attended a range of activities such as monthly digital training sessions, an outing to the theatre with local transition year students from Coláiste Oiriall and St Macartans, visits to sites of historic interest and monthly coffee mornings. Upcoming activities include a day trip to the Ulster American Folk Park, a tour of a local high-tech manufacturing company, workshop with a local herbalist, Casablanca at the Garage Theatre and so much more.

Visit or work alongside the Tuagh Spirit staff at the Truagh Spirit Digital Hub, located adjacent to N2 Dublin to Derry national route, 2km from Aughnacloy, Co Tyrone and13km Monaghan town.
